VP Engineering

Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

• Own end-to-end engineering delivery across all workstreams including Application Development, Data Platform, Business Intelligence, DevOps, and AI/ML — responsible for scope, timelines, quality, and production releases.

• Partner with the CEO and executive leadership on product roadmap, platform strategy, and long-term technology direction.

• Establish engineering operating models, delivery processes, release governance, and quality standards across the organization.

• Define and track engineering KPIs including velocity, deployment frequency, incident rate, uptime, and MTTR; report metrics to executive leadership.

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

• Hire, mentor, and develop engineering leaders across App Dev, Data Engineering, BI/Tableau, DevOps, and AI teams.

• Manage and scale offshore engineering teams in India; establish operating rhythms, accountability models, and async-first communication practices across time zones.

• Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and predictable delivery where teams raise risks early and deliver on commitments.

• Set engineering standards including code reviews, architecture reviews, definition of done, documentation, and testing requirements.

Application & Platform Architecture

• Oversee backend application architecture built on C# / .NET, including API design, microservices architecture, performance, scalability, and release quality.

• Ensure alignment between front-end applications (Angular or similar frameworks) and product/UX requirements.

• Oversee end-to-end data platform architecture including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, governance, Azimuth proprietary compliance testing processes, and data serving layers.

• Own BI and analytics delivery using Tableau, including certified data source governance, workbook standards, performance optimization, and user adoption.

DevOps, Infrastructure, and Release Management

• Own CI/CD strategy across all engineering teams including Azure DevOps pipelines, branch policies, automated testing, and environment promotion (Dev → Staging → Production).

• Ensure QA and Release Engineering operate as centralized quality gates; no production releases without automated testing and release approvals.

• Drive infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform or Bicep in Azure.

• Establish SLAs for deployment frequency, rollback procedures, and incident response; own the on-call escalation model.

Security, Compliance, and Platform Reliability

• Own engineering security architecture including Azure Entra ID, RBAC, managed identities, Key Vault secrets management, and network segmentation (VNets, private endpoints).

• Ensure platform meets financial services and regulatory data compliance requirements including data residency, encryption, audit logging, and access reviews.

• Serve as the primary engineering representative on client and executive stakeholder calls.

Qualifications / Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive engineering experience with at least 4 years in a VP, Director, or senior engineering leadership role.

• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure including ADLS, APIM, Azure Functions, Event Hubs, App Service, Azure Monitor, and Azure networking.

• Expertise in Azure Databricks including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and job orchestration.

• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, YAML pipelines, environment gates, and artifact management.

• Strong security and compliance mindset including Entra ID, RBAC, Key Vault, private endpoints, and regulated cloud environment practices.

• Experience orchestrating complex data flows, identification of data processing bottlenecks and designing and implementing solutions.

• Experienced in building/consuming REST APIs (JSON) and SDKs

• Expert-level proficiency in at least one backend or data engineering languages — Python, PySpark, or C# (.NET) — with strong working knowledge across the broader stack; able to review data platform and application architectures, assess technical debt, and provide credible technical leadership to senior engineers.

• Working knowledge of Tableau including Tableau Server administration, workbook performance, and certified data source governance.

• Experience with Generative AI and LLM integrations including RAG architectures, prompt engineering, and Azure OpenAI.

• Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams including application development, data engineering, BI/analytics, DevOps, and AI/ML teams.

• Experience managing distributed offshore engineering teams, preferably India-based delivery teams across IST time zones.

• Strong executive communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for C-suite stakeholders.

• Experience in FinTech, RegTech, or financial data platforms strongly preferred

• Startup or high-growth environment experience preferred — ability to build scalable processes without heavy bureaucracy.

Success Metrics – First 90 days

• Engineering delivery rhythm is running smoothly: standups, sprint reviews, and release pipelines operating without CEO involvement.

• All workstream team leads have clear OKRs, ownership boundaries, and a weekly 1:1 cadence established.

• Offshore teams are fully onboarded with clear ownership, SLAs, and escalation paths.
