| The Role: Director of Product - Accounting As Director of Product, you’ll lead the development and growth of our small business accounting product. You’ll thrive at Autobooks if you’re passionate about delivering the highest quality user experience to customers. As part of the application process, you will need to complete the following survey, giving us insights on how you work. At Autobooks we partner with financial institutions to help small business owners stay in complete control of their finances. Our accounting product is integrated directly into the small business owner’s business checking account, simplifying the steps needed to maintain and access financial statements. Our accounting suite, in conjunction with receivables, spend management (bill pay), and lending products provide all the tools that a small business owner needs to manage their business. All from inside their business checking account. In this role you will oversee the growth of our accounting product, from strategy through execution, growth, and iteration. You’ll work closely with your engineering and design teammates to increase adoption and usage of our products. You will be accountable shipping features and product improvements that meaningfully impact business metrics: SMB activation, retention, and revenue. As a Director of Product, you have the ability to identify a product opportunity, size and prioritize it, work with designers and developers to understand the ways that it could be built, and work with the team to develop and ship the feature. You’ll ensure that the details are taken care of in a way that makes sense to the user and that achieves each project’s objectives. You’ll bring both the technical depth (system design, data querying and analysis, funnel and event tracking) and the UX craft (user flows, copywriting, design collaboration) to deliver elegant, reliable products built for our small business owner users and our bank partners. You’ll primarily work on 2-to-6-week projects alongside engineers, designers, and QA. Within the projects, you’ll lead the ongoing architecture and design conversations and guide the team in making informed trade-offs that keep the work high quality and delivered on time. Experience Guidelines Autobooks Directors of Product generally have 8+ years of product management experience, preferably in Accounting SaaS, SMB, or fintech tools, and 3+ years leading a domain, product line or team. You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have a strong background in many of the following areas:

If your experience differs slightly from our guidelines but you are interested in learning and are qualified with analogous technologies, feel free to apply! How we work Jobs-to-be-Done Our product management team uses JTBD to discover the progress that small businesses are trying to make by identifying the causal factors in their hiring and firing of Autobooks’ and our competitors’ products. You’ll use this method to gain a deep understanding of those struggles. Framing We can’t solve every small business problem or take advantage of every opportunity to its fullest extent. Instead, we use framing to identify and quantify specific slices where we might be willing to invest. We use the framing method to rigorously define what problem we’re trying to solve, where we’re at today, and what will be different when we’re done. Shaping Every problem has an infinite number of solutions, but we can only pick one. Shaping helps us investigate many paths to solving the problem and the integral parts of those paths. Innovation becomes second nature as we question the meaning of words like “know”, “need”, “must” and “can’t”. Our engineering leadership team works with the product management team to identify paths, parts, assumptions and risks as a representative of our technology. Building We’ve put a lot of effort into defining the problem and the boundaries of the solution that fits our business needs. The output of all that effort is a “fixed-time variable-scope project”. That means we budget 2 to 6 weeks of a small team’s time to focus entirely on the opportunity and ship it to production. What Success Looks Like in This Role In this role, success means keeping the team anchored to the problem we set out to solve and its success metrics from kickoff through launch, ensuring we never “lose the plot.” You ramp up quickly and independently when new product opportunities arise, developing user flows concepts, copy, and rationale. You see shipping as the beginning of the learning cycle, continuously monitoring usage, reviewing user recordings, building or updating dashboards, and proactively surfacing insights and opportunities for refinement. You communicate product performance clearly and regularly to stakeholders, always able to explain whether a feature is succeeding and why. Above all, you raise the quality bar for the entire product team through your clarity, rigor, and sense of ownership.
